Respect for older people is important in Filipino culture and this, along with our Christmas traditions, is shown in the official Disney UK Christmas announcement, which was released yesterday.

With the poignant song “Love is a Compass,” the three-minute video begins in the 1940s in the Philippines, where a girl receives a Mickey Mouse gift from her grandfather in the middle of a street adorned with parol (Christmas star lantern).

The story then continues in a house in 2005, where the girl, now a grandmother (“Lbe“), Gives the Mickey Mouse toy to his grandson. The girl grows into a young woman and loses interest in the toy. Lola is heartbroken to realize this, but her granddaughter makes up for it by lighting her house in parol, which reminds the old woman of her hometown in the Philippines.

The ad has been viewed almost 394,000 times and has received 14,000 likes at the time of writing.
