MANILA, Philippines – Outgoing Chief of the Philippine National Police (PNP) Gen. Camilo Cascolan said Tuesday that Police Major General Debold Sinas, the next chief of the police force, generally did well despite the “shortcomings” of the latter.

“No. It’s between him and [Police Lieutenant Guillermo] Eleazar and I know that you have done well in your service. There are many things that he (Sinas) did, maybe there are shortcomings, but in general he has done well, ”Cascolan said in an interview with ABS-CBN News Channel when asked if he was surprised that President Rodrigo Duterte appointed the Police of the outgoing National Capital Region. Office (NCRPO) Sinas as the new head of the PNP.

Despite being involved in the controversial morning party, Duterte designated Sinas as the best cop in the country due to the police officer’s record in the government’s bloody war on drugs.

Sinas and several other police officers face criminal and administrative complaints before the Taguig Prosecutor’s Office for breach of quarantine rules during the celebration of the morning birthday of the outgoing head of the NCRPO on May 8.

When asked about the development of the cases against Sinas, Cascolan said: “I don’t know. I am not aware of the case. I’m not following him, but I let him (Sinas) explain. “

Cascolan will retire on Tuesday, while Sinas will officially assume his position as the next head of the country’s police organization.
