Aldin Ayo has found his way back onto the local basketball scene after a controversial end to his stint at Santo Tomas University after being selected to coach Chooks-to-Go Pilipinas for the FIBA 3 × 3 tournaments. .
Chooks made the announcement Monday after Ayo joined 3×3 skipper Ronald Mascarinas, Manila ChooksTM players Joshua Munzon, Alvin Pasaol, Troy Rike and Santi Santillan on a courtesy call with Manila Mayor Isko. Brown.
Ayo will replace Eric Altamirano, who resigned after a two-year career as commissioner of Chooks-to-Go Pilipinas 3 × 3 and directing the program for the Filipino teams that played in FIBA 3 × 3 competitions.
“I am very grateful because, for me, this will bring another dimension to my coaching career,” Ayo said. “Throughout my coaching career, it was the whole court, but this time it will be different. I can’t wait to try out new midfield schemes. “
It will also be an opportunity for Ayo to redeem himself after being the center of controversy when he maintained an unauthorized training bubble for his then UST players in his home province of Sorsogon.
Ayo resigned at the height of the controversy and was subsequently banned indefinitely by the UAAP, although he was later acquitted of any crime by Sorsogon police and provincial governor Chiz Escudero.
Not even controversy has stopped Chooks from keeping an eye on Ayo, who had led Letran and La Salle to UAAP and NCAA championships while leading UST to a final appearance last season.
“Coach Ayo is my personal choice,” Mascarinas said. “He is the most decorated coach in the university right now and we are excited that he is here with us.”
Chooks said that Ayo will not be joining Manila ChooksTM during his tenure at the Doha Masters which is set for November 20-21, but has already set a schedule for him to put the program in motion after the tournament.
