SMART CLARK GIGA CITY: The “one big fight” mentality lives on within the PBA bubble.
Meralco coach Norman Black and TNT assistant mentor Sandy Arespacochaga spearheaded a mini gathering of former Ateneo highlights participating in the Philippine Cup here Sunday night.
Black treated the group to delicious ice cream at the Mequeni Lounge inside the Quest Hotel as they walked the memory lane of their days in Katipunan.
“It was a great feeling to have a reunion with the former Blue Eagles. We meet at the hotel every day, but it was nice to have everyone for a photoshoot, ”said Black, who led the Athenaeum to five consecutive titles from 2008 to 2012.
Among those present were Kiefer Ravena and Kris Porter from NLEX, Poy Erram from TNT, Justin Chua from Phoenix, JC Intal, assistant coach Jamike Jarin and team manager Paolo Bugia, Chris Newsome from Meralco, Nico Salva, Aaron Black and team manager Paolo Trillo, and Rain or Adrian Wong and Vince Tolentino from Shine.
Also present were Nico Elorde from NorthPort, Frank Golla from Blackwater and Juami Tiongson from Terrafirma at the meeting organized by Arespacochaga.
LA Tenorio from Geneva, Japeth Aguilar and Art Dela Cruz along with Von Pessumal from San Miguel also just moments after the Beermen’s 81-66 victory over the Kings at the AUF Arena.
“I thank Coach Sandy for organizing the ice cream meeting. The Ateneo family is quite strong in the bubble ”, added Black.
The meetings have been quite celebrated in the bubble, with San Miguel coach Leo Austria leading the meeting of former Adamson standouts Jericho Cruz (NLEX), Don Trollano (Blackwater), Rodney Brondial (Alaska) and Jansen Rios ( Phoenix).
Geneva assistant coach Olsen Racela, who also serves as FEU head coach, celebrated his 50th birthday with ex-Tamaraws Arvin Tolentino (Geneva), Barkley Eboña (Alaska), Richard Escoto (Blackwater) and Wendell Comboy ( San Miguel).
