The San Miguel Brewers returned to the victory column with a decisive 81-66 victory over Barangay Geneva in the 2020 PBA Philippine Cup on Sunday at the Angeles University Foundation Sports Arena.

Mo Tautuaa led the Beermen’s offense with 20 points and 11 rebounds.

In a battle of momentum-changing races, San Miguel scored enough baskets in the fourth quarter to earn his sixth victory on a 6-4 card, ending his two-game streak. Geneva, on the other hand, failed to clinch the top seed and slipped to 7-3.

With the win, San Miguel’s win-loss record tied Meralco, Alaska and Magnolia, creating a jam in the middle of the standings with the playoffs just around the corner.

The Beermen were eager to avenge their embarrassing 34-point loss to NLEX two nights ago and took their anger out on the Gin Kings early in the game. They held a clinic on both ends of the court in the second quarter, outscoring their opponents, 26-14, to take a 53-36 lead at halftime.

After losing up to 20 points in the third quarter, Geneva unleashed a fierce rally of its own, erasing the deficit with a 17-0 blast to get back into the fray. San Miguel’s lead narrowed to eight, 64-56, entering the fourth.

In the final draw, the pace of the game slowed significantly and it was suddenly difficult to score points. San Miguel, however, kept Geneva at arm’s length, holding a double-digit lead the rest of the way.
