The first “Yolanda Memorial Walk” will take place on Sunday for Waraynons to return the assistance they had received when Yolanda hit Region 8 seven years ago by helping the residents of Bicol.

It will be led by House Majority Leader and Leyte Rep. Martin Romualdez, his wife, Tingog Party Roster Rep. Yedda Marie Romualdez, and Tacloban City Mayor Alfred Romualdez.

According to the Romualdez couple, more than 2,000 registrants had already registered for the event.

“We organize this event not only to raise funds. We are here to show our brothers and sisters in Bicol and other areas devastated by the recent typhoon that they are not alone. We are here to support them and provide all the support they need in these difficult times, ”said Romualdez.

“I have no doubt that with all of our support, these survivors can also rebuild their communities as we did seven years ago. We Filipinos are known for our resilience. Hindi tayo kayang pabagsakin ng bagyo or anumang trahedya (Typhoons or tragedies cannot bring us down), ”he added.

Yedda Romualdez expressed her hope that, like the resilient Waraynons, Bicolanos and the other victims of Typhoon Rolly, they would also “rise up and emerge stronger” with the help of their fellow Filipinos.

“Like a Phoenix, we have risen from the ashes of devastation. It wasn’t easy, but we managed to stand up and regain our ground. Thanks to friends, who were quick to help us, we were able to resume our daily lives and rebuild our communities, ”said Yedda Romualdez.

“This value of ‘malasakit’ prompts us today to meet again despite the risk posed by the pandemic, in order to raise funds for our brothers and sisters, who suffered the brunt of Typhoon Rolly. We have heard their cries and now we are here; ready to run to their aid, ”he added.

The event called “Sikad: Urusa nga Pagpitad para sa Pag-uswag (Steps together for development)” will be held at the Tacloban Astrodome on November 8 at 5 am in coordination with the city of Tacloban, Tacloban Sangguniang Federation Youth and the Bicycle Defense Community of Region 8.

The organizers assured that health protocols will be implemented to guarantee the safety of the participants, including due registration; temperature controls; use of masks, face shields and helmets; observation of physical distancing; and periodic disinfection.

Event sponsors include Sonia’s Bicycle and Military Supply Store, Manang Lumings Store, and Show and Go.
