MANILA, Philippines – The Philippine Health Insurance Corporation (PhilHealth) has launched another wave of payments to the Philippine Red Cross (PRC), to offset the rising costs of testing reaching overseas Filipino workers (OFW ) to detect coronavirus.

According to PhilHealth CEO Dante Gierran, the latest P100 million payment for reimbursement for testing claims made by PRC, largely for OFWs arriving from other countries.

“PhilHealth delivers another P100,003,015 to the Philippine Red Cross today,” Gierran said in a statement Thursday.

“(PhilHealth) accelerates the validation of claims to reimburse for COVID-19 testing conducted by the People’s Republic of China in support of the government’s campaign to curb the effect of the pandemic, particularly in OFWs,” he added.

This is not the first time that PhilHealth has paid money to the People’s Republic of China to pay off its P930 million debt. On October 27, PhilHealth announced that they had facilitated the release of P500 million as payment to PRC.
