MANILA – The health department reported 1,594 new cases of COVID-19 in the Philippines on Thursday, bringing the country’s total cases to 389,725.

The day’s additional cases do not include data from 10 accredited labs that did not deliver results on time, according to the Department of Health (DOH) bulletin.

The city of Manila led the areas of the country that registered the highest daily additional cases with 253, followed by the province of Cavite with 126. The city of Davao and Rizal registered 78 new infections, followed by the city of Quezon with 73.

The cases of recoveries increased by 468 compared to the previous day. The total number of recovered patients stood at 349,543, which represents 89.7 percent of the total registered cases.

The country also recorded 42 new deaths from the respiratory disease, bringing the death toll to 7,409.

To date, the Philippines has 32,773 active infections, representing 8.4 percent of the cumulative total cases. The DOH said 93.1 percent of currently ill patients are asymptomatic or have mild symptoms.

The DOH said that of the 24,153 people who were tested as of Wednesday noon, 1,944, or 8 percent, tested positive for the disease.

A total of 6 duplicates were removed from the total count, according to the health department. Of these, 2 were labeled as recovered cases.

Meanwhile, 14 cases initially labeled as recoveries turned out to be deaths after validation.

‘The decrease in daily cases could be due to the PH Red Cross’ stopping COVID-19 testing’

The OCTA Research Group earlier this week said that the COVID-19 positivity rate in Metro Manila is steadily declining as the country’s daily coronavirus cases also continue to decline.

The Philippines now ranks 22nd among the nations with the most coronavirus cases worldwide, registering around 1,000 average daily patients.

But Guido David of the OCTA Research Group said the decline in the daily average number of cases may be due to the suspension of government tests by the Philippine Red Cross, which have since been resumed, and the interruption of test results. lab tests due to recent typhoons.

“We hope that there is still a backlog of cases that come on suddenly. But the trend that we see is still a real trend. Because, the positivity rate that we see is also low in Metro Manila. It is only 6 percent. It will come soon.” (to) 5 percent, our goal, “he said.

(We expect delays in the new cases that are coming in. We are still seeing a real trend though. The positivity rate that we are seeing in Metro Manila has decreased. It is at 6 percent. It is already close to our target of 5 percent. )

According to the Johns Hopkins University coronavirus control panel, more than 48.1 million people have been infected by the COVID-19 virus worldwide since the start of the pandemic. Of these, more than 1.2 million have died and almost 32 million have recovered.
