NLEX gets third win at Rain or Shine’s expense

NLEX kept up the pursuit of one of the lowest spots in the playoffs by pushing back Rain or Shine, 94-74, to start another quadruple PBA header Wednesday at the AUF Arena in Pampanga.

Needing a big win to avoid falling further in the playoff race, the Road Warriors leaned on their bench and their three-point shots to improve to 3-5, currently good for eighth place in the Cup standings. Philippines 2020.

Kevin Alas led all scorers with 18 points off the bench, while Jericho Cruz scored 12 of his 17 in the fourth quarter and added three triples. JR Quinahan added 13.

Cruz hit back-to-back 3s to put NLEX ahead 11, 70-59, to start the fourth quarter, setting the pace for a Road Warriors team that controlled the pace for most of the final period.

Three consecutive corners by Anthony Semerad and Kiefer Ravena later gave NLEX an insurmountable 90-74 lead that essentially put the game out of reach.

Rey Nambatac had 15 for the Elasto Painters, who slid to 4-2.
