Philadelphia 76ers general manager says the goal is to win, not just shoot 3s

Under Daryl Morey, the Houston Rockets became the last frantic three-point team. So when he moved to the Philadelphia 76ers, there were reports that the same trend would continue with his new team.

But Morey dismissed those reports. “The goal is not to shoot 3s, the goal is to win”, he said. “You can score on offense in many different ways. Joel is one of the most efficient post players in the league. “

In an age when centers have moved away from the traditional post-goal, Joel Embiid is one of the few who still excels at it. While he can shoot from the outside as well, most of his points come from inside the paint.

So Morey seems eager to get the best out of Embiid by focusing on his focal points and honing them for greater efficiency.

Morey wants the Philadelphia 76ers to maintain their strengths

On the Rockets, Morey had James Harden, Eric Gordon and other shooters, so they decided to take advantage of their strengths, which was the outside shot.

Similarly, Morey similarly believes that the 76ers will do what they do best and not just follow what their Rockets did.

He said, “I used to get the question in Houston, ‘What would you do if you had Shaq?’ And my answer was, ‘I’d give Shaq the ball about 100 times a game.’

“Joel is a talent on both ends. We played the way we played in Houston because that was the best way to use the talents we had in Houston. “

Throughout the interview, Morey talked about Embiid and praised him. That was a clear indication that now this is Embiid’s team. There was hardly any mention of Ben Simmons, the other star of the team. He said the duo of Embiid and Simmons will work and he was confident of the same.

After 3 seasons playing together without any success in the playoffs, Embiid and Simmons hope to finally change that tune. Making it to the Eastern Conference Finals will be a great achievement for the Philadelphia team.

It’s going to be a great season for them, and fans are hoping players will find the ability to play through all the pressure that comes with the same.
