Should he win the presidency of the Philippine Olympic Committee on November 27, archery chief Atty. Clint Aranas aims to get up and running in its first 100 days by strengthening the POC membership and reviewing the local Olympic body so it can better serve its stakeholders.

During the Philippine Sports Writers Association online forum, Aranas also lobbied the Philippine Southeast Asian Games Organizing Committee to submit its overdue report, including audited financial statements, on the 30th SEA Games to the POC.

“If we ever win, the first 100 days will be about planning, strategizing and talking about NSA plans and programs,” Aranas said on the Philippine Amusements and Gaming Corp-supported public sports program, San Miguel Corp., Smart, Go for Gold, Amelie Hotel, Brasca Restaurant and Milo.

“We will do a presentation together with the NSAs and tell corporate sponsors that the sponsorship will go directly to the NSA for transparency,” he said. “At the responsibility level, I’ll make sure the money goes into their plans and programs for the next four years so that everything is clear and clean.”

The former president and director of operations of the government’s surety and insurance system added that he would also introduce some amendments to the constitution and statutes of the POC so that it can be a more efficient and effective organization.

He said that among them is the removal of the POC president and the immediate past president of the POC as members of the Executive Board, as well as making the member of the POC Athletes Commission a member of the voting board.

“Our POC constitution states that our board is made up of 13 board members and not 14, so this would need an amendment requiring the approval of the Securities and Exchange Commission and the International Olympic Committee,” he said.

Another change, he said, is the appointment of a POC general secretary as a “paid professional” but without any voting rights as a board member, as opposed to the current configuration in which the POC general secretary Atty. Ed Gastanes, who was appointed by the president of the POC, Bambol Tolentino, has a vote.

“This situation looks ugly because the designated general secretary will cast his vote in favor of the decision of the POC president,” said Aranas.

Another amendment that will promote or is for officials of national sports associations that are non-Olympic sports to be eligible to vote and be voted for any POC position, unlike this letter where the position of POC president must come from a Olympic discipline. .
