TWO government agencies managing the country’s search for and acquisition of a vaccine for the 2019 coronavirus disease (Covid-19) welcomed the appointment of the National Working Group on the Chief Implementer of Covid-19, Carlito Galvez, Jr., like the country’s new vaccine czar.
President Rodrigo Duterte appointed Gálvez, concurrent presidential advisor on the peace process, to the post on Monday night when he met with members of his cabinet.
The president said that Gálvez will lead the negotiations for the acquisition of the Covid vaccine and will plan the government’s national immunization program.
In a statement sent to journalists on Tuesday, the Department of Health (DoH) welcomed Gálvez’s appointment and said it looks forward to working closely with him on the launch of a “safe and effective Covid-19 vaccine.”
“Together, we will ensure that it is accessible to all Filipinos,” added the Department of Health.
Dr. Jaime Montoya, Executive Director of the Department of Science and Technology of the Philippine Health Research and Development Council, said The Manila Times in an email that they will work under the guidance of Gálvez “to ensure the availability of safe and effective Covid-19 vaccines in the country.”
