MANILA, Philippines – Interior Secretary Eduardo Año said Tuesday that he is ready to present “within this week” to President Rodrigo Duterte the list of candidates to replace the head of the Philippine National Police (PNP), which will soon be will retire, General Camilo Cascolan.
During his regular press conference at the Palace, presidential spokesman Harry Roque said that Duterte already has a short list of candidates for his next police chief.
“I’m sure he already has a short list, but in the final election, it depends on the president when he will issue it,” Roque said.
When asked to confirm, Year told INQUIRER.net that he has not yet submitted the short list.
“(I will send the list) within this week. Before Friday, “Year said in a text message.
The interior secretary, however, did not reveal how many names are on the short list.
Cascolan, who became the country’s top police officer on Sept. 1, will retire on Nov. 10 when he reaches the mandatory retirement age of 56, unless Duterte orders his term extended.
