The NBA is pressing the panic button in hopes of starting the next season before Christmas.
Commissioner Adam Silver said the league and its players “are running out of time” to agree to advance notice on Dec. 22, which would require teams to report to training camps within a month.
ESPN’s Adrian Wojnarowski and Zach Lowe reported the update on Tuesday Manila time, saying the league only has “several days” left to agree to start training camps on December 1.
Some players have scoffed at the talk of starting before Christmas, which will have given NBA Finals stars, the Los Angeles Lakers and Miami Heat, less than two months to rest.

Players have proposed an alternate start date for Martin Luther King Jr. Day on January 18, though that would mean even reduced league games, salaries and revenue schedule.
For the fourth time, the league and the players association extended the term of the option to terminate the current collective agreement until Saturday Manila time. If either party chooses not to participate by then, the collective agreement will be terminated on Dec. 14 “unless the parties agree otherwise,” the NBA said.
