The United Nations and the European Union are committed to supporting the government’s response to help communities affected by Typhoon “Rolly”.
The United Nations humanitarian and resident coordinator, Gustavo González, confirmed to the Philippine government the willingness of the humanitarian community to support national efforts.
“We have not waited for this typhoon to make landfall to mobilize our humanitarian teams and take action,” Gonzalez said in a statement Monday.

He also said that the International Organization for Migration will provide support to local authorities in the management of evacuation centers.
The World Food Program also received a request for logistical support for food distribution in disaster areas, he added.
While citing the Filipinos for being “incredibly resilient,” González stressed that no one should be left behind while authorities and humanitarian organizations implement disaster relief and response operations.
“We must prepare for the worst and be ready to save lives, while relying on the effectiveness of years of close collaboration in emergency preparedness and disaster risk reduction efforts, such as the timely evacuation of people from low-lying areas. In the hours and days to come we must collectively do everything in our power to save lives and make sure no one is left behind, ”he said.
The European Union has also expressed its solidarity with the Filipino people and promised to assist in the recovery efforts.
