Tropical storm “Siony” (international name: Atsani) blew closer to the Philippine landmass on Monday, when Typhoon “Rolly” (Goni) left the country.

But the Philippine Astronomical, Geophysical and Atmospheric Services Administration (Pagasa) said there was a “high degree of uncertainty” about Siony’s forecast trajectory, due to its erratic motion.

At 3 pm on Monday, the center of Siony was estimated to be 655 kilometers east of the city of Calayan in the province of Cagayan. It had sustained winds of 65 km per hour near the center and gusts of up to 80 km / h.

Moving north

Pagasa said Siony was moving north at 25 kilometers per hour.

In a previous severe weather bulletin, Pagasa said the storm was expected to decelerate significantly and become almost stationary Tuesday through Wednesday morning.

Although still over the Philippine Sea, the Siony trough will begin to bring cloudy skies and scattered showers and thunderstorms to the Cagayan Valley, Apayao, Kalinga and Ilocos Norte on Tuesday.

Meanwhile, after devastating the Bicol region and parts of southern Luzon on Sunday, Rolly moved west on Monday and would soon be out of Philippine territory.

As of Monday afternoon, Rolly was 225 km west of the city of Iba in the province of Zambales.

From a super typhoon category, it had weakened significantly to a tropical storm, with 65 km / h winds and 80 km / h gusts.

However, its spread was still expected to bring rain and thunderstorms to Western Visayas, Zamboanga Peninsula, Zambales, Bataan, Occidental Mindoro, Palawan, Basilan, Sulu and Tawi-Tawi on Tuesday.

The weather service said Rolly could continue to weaken into a tropical depression as it exits Philippine territory on Tuesday morning.
