MANILA, Philippines – The entire province of Camarines Sur in Bicol was in a state of calamity on Monday after Super Typhoon Rolly struck the entire region over the weekend.

According to a resolution drawn up by the Provincial Council, attended by Lieutenant Governor Imelda Papin and other members of the board from across the province, a state of calamity was declared after evaluating the damage caused by Rolly.

Resolution No. 235 of the 2020 series was approved by Governor Miguel Luis Villafuerte.

“Resolved […] by the Sangguniang Panlalawigan in Ordinary Session gathered, to declare, as hereby stated, the entire Province of Camarines Sur in a State of Calamity due to the strong winds and torrential rains, as well as the extensive flooding and other damage caused by Typhoon Rolly ”. said the council.

Declaring a state of calamity would allow local governments to access catastrophe funds, which can be used to clear roads and rebuild infrastructure, and also help people affected by calamities like Super Typhoon Rolly.

Rolly made landfall on Saturday, deviating from its intended initial trajectory of moving along Aurora and northern Quezon, rather than hitting the Bicol region and southern Luzon, especially Camarines Sur, Catanduanes and Albay.
