Metro Manila (CNN Philippines, November 2) – More than 385,000 people in the Philippines have been infected with COVID-19, around nine months since the country reported its first case of the viral disease.
The Health Department announced 2,298 new cases on Monday, bringing the total count to 385,400. However, he noted that this still excludes the most recent data from 14 testing labs that did not submit their reports on time.
Of the national count, 29,301, or 7.6 percent, are currently ill patients.
The DOH said Benguet had the highest number of new cases with 188, followed by Davao City with 166, Rizal with 119, Quezon City with 116 and Bulacan with 91.
Thirty-two more patients also died from the disease, bringing the death toll to 7,269. Meanwhile, recoveries increased to 348,830 with 87 new survivors.
According to the case bulletin, the DOH removed 11 duplicates from the overall count, while four cases mistakenly reported as recoveries were reclassified as deaths after final validation.
When Typhoon Rolly forced hundreds of thousands of residents to flee their homes on Sunday, health officials strongly urged evacuees to continue to practice minimum health standards to prevent further viral transmission and an increase in COVID cases. -19.
DOH also emphasized the role of local governments in protecting those affected by the typhoon from the virus by ensuring that appropriate preventative measures are taken, that symptomatic and high-risk individuals are immediately isolated and maintained adequate room ventilation, among others.
