Acting no more.
Phoenix Super LPG has promoted Topex Robinson as head coach as of today, Nov. 1, the team said in a statement.
Robinson was assigned to the Fuel Masters bench on an interim basis following the firing of Louie Alas last September.
“We look forward to achieving more with him as he continues to develop the team’s potential, while establishing a franchise with a winning culture.” said the team.
According to sources, the team waited for the veteran mentor’s contract to expire on October 31 before handing over the reins to Robinson, 45.
This is the cager-turned-coach’s first official head coach concert in the pioneering Asian professional league.
Robinson first came to the Dennis Uy-owned franchise in 2017 alongside Alas, both from Alaska Aces.
He served as the associate head coach of the champion bench tactician, who led Phoenix to a semi-final appearance at the Philippine Cup last season.
Robinson has been doing a solid job mentoring the Fuel Masters in the 2020 Philippine Cup thus far, as evidenced by his 4-3 record.
