Naia will temporarily halt flight operations due to Rolly’s threat

MANILA, Philippines – Ninoy Aquino International Airport (NAIA) will temporarily halt flight operations starting Sunday due to potential impacts from Typhoon Rolly in the country, the Manila International Airport Authority (MIAA) said on Saturday.

In a statement, MIAA CEO Ed Monreal said that the closure of all NAIA terminals is from November 1, Sunday at 10 a.m., to November 2, Monday at 10 a.m.

Monreal appealed to airline passengers not to enter during the shutdown.

“[Monreal] advises passengers to immediately coordinate with their airlines for instructions on their new flight times. Airlines were also told to ensure that their customer service hotlines are ready to receive the expected increase in calls from passengers, ”the MIAA statement read.

The Philippine Astronomical, Geophysical and Atmospheric Services Administration (Pagasa) announced that Typhoon Rolly will likely make landfall early Sunday morning and then also cross Camarines provinces and Quezon province.

Pagasa said violent winds and heavy rains are expected in Catanduanes, Camarines provinces from morning to afternoon and over Quezón from afternoon to night.
