The cone prepares for a grueling schedule after another postponement

SMART CLARK GIGA CITY – The PBA’s postponement for the second half of the Philippines Cup eliminations could work in two ways for all 12 teams.

Barangay Geneva coach Tim Cone says the rare bursting of the bubble since matches began three weeks ago and were played daily, should give players a break to rest tired legs and bodies.

But at the same time, he hopes the league will release the new schedules as tightly as possible, so he wouldn’t be surprised that triple headers could be the norm for the rest of the eliminations.

“Probably more triple headers too, guys playing at 2pm, then 4pm or 6pm. That wouldn’t be too bad either, but it’s definitely going to adjust the schedule. “Cone Friday said when the league formally announced the postponement of all games scheduled starting Friday pending new protocols proposed by the Department of Health (DoH) and the IATF (Interagency Task Force on Emerging Infectious Diseases).

Cone cited the case of Barangay Ginebra.

“We are playing four games this week and we could end up having more in the future,” he said.

It was the first time the Kings had canceled their game in the bubble, which he said would somehow help his players regroup and get their legs back once eliminations finally resumed.

But again, going back and playing with an even compact schedule could take its toll on the team later on as well.

“Somehow it will help us save our legs a bit,” he emphasized. “But eventually you have to make it up and it might be twice as difficult to try to do those things. So we still don’t know how this is going to work. “

Cone was frank enough in saying he was looking forward to the Kings’ game against five-time champion San Miguel Beer at the University of Angeles Foundation gym.

The Beermen are currently on a three-game winning streak, while the Kings’ back-to-back lost games went to the big showdown that was among those canceled in the last minute.

“I felt like we were ready to play tonight, but I say. We’re physically fine, ”said the 62-year-old Geneva mentor.

“We are anxious because it is going to be a great game with San Miguel and us, only to postpone it and play it at another time.”

Cone joked that the new game scheduled with San Miguel would not be that long.

“Hopefully June Mar isn’t there yet,” he said.
