MANILA, Philippines – Typhoon Rolly intensified again as of Friday afternoon, but the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (Pagasa) expects it to intensify further.
The latest severe weather bulletin showed that Rolly now has maximum sustained winds of 185 kilometers per hour (kph) and gusts of up to 230 kph. Pagasa now raises the possibility of it becoming a super typhoon by local categories.
This is in line with previous predictions from the United States Joint Typhoon Warning Center that Rolly could reach a maximum intensity of 240 km / h. But Pagasa says that from now on they expect it to intensify to 195 km / h.
It was last seen 980 kilometers east of Casiguran, Aurora, and is still moving west at 20 kilometers per hour.
Rolly is expected to still turn southwest between Friday night and Saturday morning, and continue to move near the Bicol region. It can make a slight west-northwest push between Saturday and Sunday, which means it can make landfall over Aurora or the northern province of Quezon.
The tropical cyclone No. 1 wind signal has already risen over Catanduanes, as you can start feeling wind speeds of 30 to 60 km / h in the next 36 hours. [ac]
