Some Korean fans ask Chanyeol to leave EXO as his agency adopts ‘no comment’ on the issue

While international fans have overwhelmingly supported K-pop boy band EXO member Chanyeol in light of a post from a woman claiming to be his ex-girlfriend, a community of Korean fans released a statement requesting his idol group retreat.

Chanyeol became the number one most searched term on October 29 on Korean website Naver after the woman alleged that he cheated on her during their three-year relationship.

When asked to comment, SM Entertainment told Korean media that it “does not have an official position” on the Chanyeol issue.

In her post, the woman stated that “at the end of October 2017, you said that you got my phone number from an acquaintance and that he contacted me first. We flirted like any other couple and we kept in touch. Then you confessed and we started dating seriously. Until recently, as our third anniversary approached, I discovered some shocking facts, ”according to MyDaily.

The woman also claimed that she heard that Chanyeol had other women while they were dating, including a member of a K-pop girl group, YouTuber, a jockey, dancer, and flight attendant.

The EXO Gallery on the Korean website DC Inside issued their official position on October 29 and they want Chanyeol to leave EXO.

In their statement calling for the withdrawal, Korean fans said that SM Entertainment’s “unofficial position” stance on Chanyeol means that the agency has shown poor management and failed to care for its artists.

They said that Chanyeol will also not post any personal comments on this controversy, so they have decided to exclude him as a member of EXO. The EXO Gallery members added that they are never willing to accept such behavior as it is not really moral and makes someone hurt their feelings.

“We strongly urge SM Entertainment to exclude him from EXO,” fans said.

However, given SM Entertainment’s previous decision to keep member Chen in the group, the agency may choose to allow Chanyeol to remain a member of EXO.

Last January, Chen announced that he was getting married and that his girlfriend was pregnant. This caused an uproar with a group of Korean fans demanding that I leave EXO.

“I have a girlfriend, with whom I want to share the rest of my life. As I discussed with other EXO members and company officials about breaking the news (about my girlfriend), we received a blessing, ”he wrote in a letter, the Korea Times reported.

SM Entertainment announced their position in February to say that Chen will remain as a member of the group even after getting married, a decision that other EXO members supported.

“Before officially announcing Chen’s marriage, we discussed carefully with the other members. Because EXO had to suffer from the members leaving, they expressed their desire to stay together in the future without any changes. We also respect your opinions and would like to inform you that there are no changes to EXO’s current lineup, ”the agency said, according to Osen.

Chen became a father on April 29 this year when his wife gave birth to a daughter. He enlisted in the military on October 26 to serve as an active duty soldier.

Amid the current controversy, the hashtag #EXOLProtectChanyeol was trending on Twitter as fans shielded Chanyeol from the controversy, in addition to #EXOleaveSM.

Chanyeol’s latest Instagram post on October 22 has garnered over 170,000 comments, with many supporting him.

“Oppa, stay strong … it’s nothing … we believe you and we believe in you,” commented a fan in his post.

Another fan wrote, “I trust Chanyeol because I know he was raised and surrounded by amazing women who taught him to love and respect people.”

Korean netizens did their bit on the issue and one commented in a news article about Chanyeol, “How come SM never has a quiet day with a new scandal breaking out every week?”

Why hate women? I do not get it. If you want to support him, okay, support him, but don’t attack the victim in all of this, ”wrote another, according to Netizen Buzz.
