MANILA, Philippines – The Philippines now has 378,933 COVID-19 cases after the Health Department recorded 2,006 new infections on Friday.
Of the number, 10.9% or 41,291 are considered active. The DOH said that 94.4% of active cases are mild and asymptomatic cases.
Batangas recorded the highest number of new COVID-19 infections with 124 cases, followed by Cavite (121), Quezon City (105), Rizal (89) and Bulacan (81).
DOH also reported 636 new recoveries, bringing the total number of recoveries in the country to 330,457 and 38 more deaths, bringing the death toll to 7,185.
Additionally, the DOH said it removed eight duplicates from the total case count, including four recovered cases.
The DOH also reclassified 23 recovered cases as deaths.
The new coronavirus disease outbreak first emerged in Wuhan City, Hubei Province, China, in late 2019.
COVID-19 causes mild or moderate symptoms such as fever and cough in most people. However, older adults and people with underlying health problems can experience more serious illnesses, such as pneumonia and death. [ac]
