MANILA – Tropical cyclone Rolly (international name: Goni) has intensified to a typhoon as it moves toward Central Luzon and Quezon province, the state meteorological office PAGASA said Thursday night.
In its 11 pm weather bulletin, PAGASA said that Rolly has “rapidly escalated to a typhoon” as it moves west at 20 km / h and has maximum sustained winds of 120 km / h and gusts of 150 km / h. h.
He was last seen 1,280 kilometers east of Central Luzon at 10 p.m. Thursday.
According to PAGASA, it can generate the tropical cyclone wind signal (TCWS) no. 1 over some provinces in the Bicol region for Friday, in anticipation of conditions close to a storm due to the typhoon.
“Since this typhoon is likely to continue to intensify before making landfall, the highest possible TCWS that will rise during the passage of this typhoon will be TCWS # 3 or # 4 (associated with destructive or highly destructive typhoon force winds) “, PAGASA warned.
The Joint Typhoon Warning Center (JTWC) of the United States Navy and the United States Air Force previously said Tropical Cyclone Rolly could intensify and become a super typhoon before making landfall in Luzon.
Rolly is forecast to move west southwest on Friday through Saturday night and is likely to make landfall over the central Luzon-Quezon area on Sunday night or Monday morning.
The typhoon is expected to make landfall with a peak intensity of 165 to 185 km / h.
Between Thursday night and Friday morning, the typhoon trough is forecast to bring light to moderate rains with heavy rains at times over the Bicol region, eastern Visayas, central Visayas and Caraga, according to PAGASA.
Typhoon’s rainbands can also bring rain over the Bicol region and the eastern section of northern and central Luzon on Saturday or Sunday.
PAGASA is also monitoring another tropical depression outside of PAR, located 2,420 kilometers east of Mindanao.
She is expected to enter PAR on Sunday or Monday and will be given the local name “Siony.”
