ERC orders distribution companies not to implement the disconnection

The Energy Regulatory Commission (ERC), on Thursday, October 29, ordered the Distribution Companies (DUs) not to implement any disconnection due to non-payment of bills until December 31, 2020, for consumers with a monthly consumption not higher than twice the ERC-approved Lifeline Consumption Maximum Level.

This means that consumers with 201 kilowatt hours and higher may still face disconnection.

For all other customers, DUs and retail electricity providers must implement a minimum 30-day grace period on all payments that are due within the enhanced community quarantine and modified enhanced community quarantine period without incurring interest, penalties, and other charges.

Any unpaid balance after the expiration of the 30-day grace period will be paid in three equal monthly installments without incurring interest, penalties, and other charges.

Customers who have the ability to pay are encouraged to settle their bills within the original due date to help manage cash flow in the energy supply chain and ensure the continuous supply of electricity.

DUs may offer less burdensome payment terms to encourage early payment.

Government offices, government agencies, government-controlled corporations, and other government agencies are not covered by the 30-day grace period and the installment agreement provided. (JOB)
