MANILA, Philippines – Rain or Shine head coach Caloy Garcia has a good sense of where Rey Nambatac’s career is headed in the PBA.

Nambatac is only in his third season in the PBA, but Garcia had seen enough to know that Spitfire’s guard is destined for stardom.

“As I said from the beginning, Rey is a different kind of player,” Garcia said after Rain or Shine’s 85-82 overtime win over Barangay Geneva on Tuesday night.

“He will be the future of the player, eventually he will be a superstar.”

Nambatac, 26, had just eight points, six rebounds and four assists in 33 minutes against the Gin Kings. But as to how significant his role is with the Elasto Painters, it goes beyond scores.

Nambatac has a knack for hitting big shots at key moments in the game and he showed it again after exhausting a clutch triple against Geneva with 1.4 seconds left in regulation time.

“He likes that position where he’ll take those shots,” Garcia said.
