Rain or Shine coach Caloy Garcia believes the PBA is doing a “great job” on the bubble despite recent news that a game referee and a Blackwater player were initially labeled as suspect cases after giving a positive result on your RT-PCR tests.
Since then, the referee and the Blackwater player have received negative results on their antigen and RT-PCR tests administered at the New Clark City (NCC) quarantine facility. Both are currently isolated at the same location and must go through the 10-day quarantine period before being released and allowed to return to the PBA bubble.
“Sometimes there will be false positives. Of course, it is difficult for someone to test positive, but the PBA so far is doing a great job in the bubble. We just have to follow the IATF (guidelines) and keep our distance social, “Garcia told ESPN5 on Wednesday.
Garcia reminded Rain or Shine players to be vigilant, while making sure to observe proper health and safety procedures within the bubble.
“I just told the players to stay on the team as much as possible. I know they have friends from other teams, but it’s important to really look at social distancing,” he added.
Garcia is also happy to see the Elasto Painters show strong focus despite the latest distractions in the PBA bubble following their thrilling 85-82 overtime win over the Barangay Geneva Kings on Tuesday night.
Garcia admitted that the team only had one day to prepare against Geneva, as their focus over the weekend was actually against Blackwater. But his game against the Elite on Sunday had to be postponed when the Blackwater player tested positive for COVID-19.
“Geneva is one of the best teams in the league, so it’s always huge when you beat an elite team,” Garcia stressed. “At the same time, every game in the bubble is important because there is fatigue for the players because you play almost every day.”
Big man Beau Belga led Rain or Shine’s attack with a double-double effort of 20 points, 10 rebounds and 4 assists, while Mark Borboran, Javee Mocon and James Yap also scored in double figures, as the Elasto Painters won. second place solo with his 4 -1 record.
Rain or Shine’s only loss came at Alaska’s expense, an 88-89 loss last week. Garcia, however, wants his charges to keep their focus as the team prepares for back-to-back games that begin against Phoenix on Saturday and then NLEX next Monday.
“You have to try to get as many wins as you can because here in the bubble, everyone is equal. Right now we are 4-1, but we could easily have been 1-4 because all our games have been close,” he added. Garcia shared.
