THE Philippine Health Insurance Corporation (PhilHealth) has “three days” to pay off its outstanding debt to the Philippine Red Cross (PRC), Senator Richard Gordon, concurrent president of the People’s Republic of China, said Wednesday.

Gordon said the state insurer still owes the organization 561 million pesos or about half of its 1.1 billion peso debt to the organization. The amount is equivalent to 160,475 confirmatory swab tests for the new coronavirus.

“The debt is due and due. The agreement says at the request of the Red Cross for payment when we send the receipts [to PhilHealth] … They should pay in three days, ”Gordon said in an interview with the ANC.

Gordon said the state insurer should pay immediately because his remaining balance could increase again.

The Red Cross resumed state-funded testing on Wednesday, a day after Philhealth transferred a partial payment of 500 million pesos on Tuesday.

PRC had suspended all Philhealth-funded swab tests in mid-October after the state insurer racked up P930 million in debt.
