MANILA, Philippines – Beau Belga blossomed down the stretch as Rain or Shine edged Barangay Geneva, 85-82 in overtime in the PBA Philippine Cup on Tuesday night at the AUF Sports Arena & Cultural Center in Angeles, Pampanga.
With the Elasto Painters trailing by two, Belga accounted for his team’s seven consecutive points, including an inside basket lead and a 3-pointer for an 83-78 band with 1:34 remaining.
Belga, who also handed a nifty plate to Mark Borboran for the tying bucket as part of Rain or Shine’s grueling overtime run, had 20 points, 10 rebounds, four assists and two steals.
Borboran added 16 points and five rebounds, as well as being a valuable piece on the defensive end late, when he committed a key offensive foul on Japeth Aguilar and a crucial steal in the extra session.
Rey Nambatac’s 3-pointer with 1.4 seconds left followed by a deflection by Gabe Norwood on a Stanley Pringle inning pass paved the way for extra time with a score tied at 76 at the end of regulation time.
James Yap and Javee Mocon also scored double-digit scores with 13 and 12 points, respectively for the Painters, improved to 4-1.
Scottie Thompson kept Geneva in the game in the fourth quarter and finished with 21 points, 10 rebounds and five assists.
Stanley Pringle had 20 points, seven rebounds and six assists, but it wasn’t enough as the Gin Kings suffered their second straight loss and fell to 4-2.
