PHL Red Cross Cited for Key Role in Covid Response

RECOGNIZING his “extraordinary achievements” in the country’s fight against Covid-19 and in providing humanitarian assistance, the International Federation of Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies (IFRC) praised the Philippine Red Cross, as it also set the world standard for its testing capacity which has reached more than one million people.

“I want to express our worldwide support for the work of the Philippine Red Cross and acknowledge the extraordinary contribution they are making by testing more than one million people across the country. And I hope it continues, ”said Robert Kaufman, International Federation country office director. He added that the People’s Republic of China is setting the global standard for humanitarian organization testing and is the only society out of 192 that received a letter from the International Federation Secretary General Jagan Chapagain, recognizing its extraordinary achievements in testing.

That achievement, he said, is a fundamental action to save lives.

“While we have incredible work in many places, this is one of the extraordinary Red Cross societies around the world. They set an example for members, staff and volunteers around the world, ”he added.

Kaufman also noted the importance of community trust and partnerships, which are strengthened after trust is earned, in the success of the PRC’s efforts.

“But they [PRC] I can’t do it alone It requires partnerships. And those partnerships are essential for success. Trust must be earned every day with good decisions and correct actions. And PRC is doing that, ”he added.

The Red Cross was forced to stop testing people with PhilHealth warrants last week, and negotiations are underway to get the state insurer to pay.
