PAUL LEE and Mark Barroca joined forces down the stretch as Magnolia ended a three-game losing streak with a huge 102-92 win over Barangay Ginebra San Miguel on Sunday at the Philippine Basketball Association’s Philippine Cup at the gym in the University Foundation of Angeles.

Despite the distractions caused by a Covid-19 scare inside the bubble and those narrow losses to Alaska (81-87), Meralco (104-89) and Phoenix Super LPG (84-91), the Hotshots did not lose the Hope and denied the once undefeated Gin Kings of winning five straight games.

“Our losses were too close and we felt like they could be won [games]”Said Magnolia’s coach Chito Victolero. “We lost our mental strength in the last three, two minutes because of those losses, and that is not our character.”

Lee and Barroca nailed long 3s in the closing seconds to give the Hotshots an insurmountable 102-89 cushion after unleashing a 14-0 run midway through the fourth period.

Jackson Corpuz added 20 points, while Paul Lee added 15 points and Barroca added 15 to help the Hotshots improve to a 2-3 win-loss record.

Ian Sangalang scored 14 points and grabbed eight rebounds, while Roma Dela Rosa and Chris Banchero finished with 13 points and 10 points, respectively.

Jio Jalalon provided 10 assists in addition to nine points.

Stanley Pringle led Geneva with 24 points.
