‘Quinta’ now on the Strait of Mindoro; Signal No. 3 in the northwest of the province

MANILA, Philippines – Only one area in Luzon remained under Tropical Cyclone Warning Sign No. 3, while Metro Manila is currently under Sign No. 1 as Typhoon Quinta is now over the Mindoro Strait while maintaining its strength on Monday, the Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Philippines. Services Administration (Pagasa) said.

Pagasa said that the northwestern part of Occidental Mindoro (Abra de Ilog, Mamburao, Paluan), including Lubang Island, remained under signal number 3.

Meanwhile, the following areas remained under Sign No. 2:

  • Eastern mindoro
  • the rest of Occidental Mindoro
  • Calamian Islands
  • Batangas
  • the north end of Antique (Caluya)

The signal n. 1 was also placed over the following areas:

  • The southern part of Zambales (San Antonio, Castillejos, Subic, Olongapo City)
  • Bataan
  • the southwestern part of Pampanga (Floridablanca, Lubao, Sasmuan, Masantol)
  • the southwestern part of Bulacan (Hagonoy, Paombong, Malolos City, Bulacan, Obando, Meycauayan City)

  • Quezon, including the Polillo Islands
  • Marinduque
  • Romblon
  • the northern part of Palawan (El Nido, Taytay) including the Cuyo islands

  • the rest of the northern portion of Antique (Laua-An, Barbaza, Tibiao, Culasi, Sebaste, Pandan, Libertad)

At 10 am, Quinta was located 125 kilometers north of Coron, Palawan, or 120 km west southwest of the city of Calapan, Oriental Mindoro.

It has maximum sustained winds of 125 km / h and gusts of up to 150 km / h, moving west at a speed of 25 km / h.

Pagasa said Quinta will continue to move west through Monday afternoon and turn west-northwest toward the western boundary of the Philippines Area of ​​Responsibility.

The typhoon is seen to intensify again and can reach its maximum intensity in 24 to 48 hours.

It is also seen leaving PAR on Tuesday morning.

Moderate to heavy rain

Pagasa said Quinta will bring moderate to heavy rains, sometimes intense, over Occidental Mindoro, Oriental Mindoro, Romblon, Marinduque, northern Palawan, including Calamian and Cuyo Islands, Calabarzon, Aurora, Isabela, Quirino, Mountain Province, Ifugao, Benguet, Aklan, Capiz. and Antique.

Due to the end of a frontal system, moderate to heavy rains will be experienced over Cagayan, Apayao, Kalinga, Abra, Ilocos Norte and Ilocos Sur.

Pagasa said the two weather systems will also bring light to moderate with heavy rains at times in Metro Manila, western Visayas, Zamboanga Peninsula, Bangsamoro, northern Mindanao, Caraga and the rest of Luzon.

The meteorological office warned of potential flooding (including flash floods) and rain-induced landslides, especially during heavy or prolonged rains.

Destructive winds

“Destructive typhoon-force winds” are expected in areas under Signal No. 3, Pagasa said, while damaging gales to storm-force winds will be experienced in areas under Signal No. 2.

Meanwhile, the areas under the sign n. 1 will have a strong breeze or conditions close to a gale.

Due to the northeast swell, strong wind to gale conditions will also prevail in the Ilocos, Batanes, Cagayán, Apayao and northern Zambales region.

Coastal waters

Pagasa said that rough to high seas will be experienced off the shorelines of areas under TCWS, while rough to very rough seas will also prevail over the remaining shores of Luzon and the western, northern and eastern shores of Visayas.

“Sea travel is risky for all types of maritime vessels in these waters,” the meteorological office said.

Meanwhile, the moderate to rough seas will be experienced on the other coasts of the country.

The meteorological office is also monitoring an area of ​​low pressure, which was located 1,920 km east of southern Luzon at 10 am Monday.

Pagasa said the LPA may enter PAR on Wednesday or Thursday morning, but is “less likely to turn into a tropical depression in the next 48 hours.”
