MANILA – Marco Gumabao stands behind his sister even if she couldn’t clinch the crown during the recent Miss Universe Philippines pageant.
In a post on his Instagram story Sunday night, Marco said that he will always be proud of Michele, even if he disagrees with the outcome of the competition.
“Proud of you! Of course, I do not agree with the decision, but now is not the time to get bitter. I know this is God’s plan. We are just beginning,” he wrote.
In the same post, Marco also assured Michele that he loves her.
Rabiya Mateo from Iloilo City was named the winner of the inaugural Miss Universe Philippines pageant held at the Baguio Country Club.
Gumabao finished as the second runner-up and received the Miss MG Philippines special award during the preliminaries.
In his own post after the competition, Gumabao expressed his gratitude to all who supported his trip.
“To all my Michelin stars, thank you for being with me on this journey! I love each and every one of you! Thank you for all your support! Until the end, Laban!” he said in a statement issued by his coaches Aces and Queens.
He also said that he left Baguio Country Club while the contest was ongoing because he already knew the results and couldn’t handle all the attention he was getting.
“I left BCC this morning while the pageant was in progress. I knew who won last night so I tried to go to our viewing party, but everyone kept asking what happened, all the hugs, all the stares.
Gumabao also clarified that he has no problem accepting defeat, but that he cannot accept all the questions asked about it.
“I can handle defeat hahahaha I can’t handle people asking me why, why, why … I’m sharing this with you because you deserve to know my side, we don’t need to defend anyone. I did my very best and I don’t regret it.” he added.
Gumabao first entered the pageant scene in 2018 through Binibining Pilipinas, the former owner of the Miss Universe franchise.
She was part of the winning batch that included Miss Universe 2018 Catriona Gray and Miss Intercontinental 2018 Karen Gallman.
