MANILA, Philippines – The head of the Southern Luzon Command of the Armed Forces of the Philippines (AFP), Lieutenant General Antonio Parlade Jr., denied on Monday having participated in the putting up of “persona non grata” posters in Manila while crying for alleged accusations made by the governor of Cavite, Jonvic Remulla.
“They have accused me of putting those tarps on [Manila]. Governor Remulla posted this this morning or just last night accusing me of putting up those tarps, ”Parlade said in an interview on the ABS-CBN news channel Monday.
“It was not me who put those tarps there,” he added.
Previously, Parlade questioned why the mayor of Manila, Isko Moreno, ordered the removal of banners declaring the Communist Party of the Philippines, the New People’s Army and the National Democratic Front (CPP-NPA-NDF) as “persona non grata” or unwanted people.
“Who am I to put up those tarps?” Parlade continued.
“I am just a spokesperson for the NTF-ELCAC (National Working Group to End the Local Communist Armed Conflict), by the way, I am also the commander of southern Luzon, ko ang Cavite area,” he added.
Parlade also lamented why Remulla had to take to social media to make the accusations against the military officer.
“Why don’t you call me and ask me about those things? Why are you accusing me? So that’s not fair, he’s still on his Facebook wall and threatens me, that ‘if I put that up, he’ll make sure I delete it,’ he added.
“It is not correct to accuse me of putting up those tarps,” he added.
In a Facebook post early Monday, Remulla warned that if similar posters were put up at Cavite, he would ensure they were removed immediately.
“Let me assure you that if you or any of your men put up signs in Cavite province, they will NOT last a day!” said the governor.
‘I’m not a coward’
Parlade said that if he had had a hand to put up those tarps in Manila, he would have displayed his name and the office logo on the posters.
“I am not a coward. If I put a tarp there, I’ll make sure my name is there, my office logo is there, ”he said.
“I’ll make sure to be courteous enough to pay your respects to the [local chief executives], the governor, the mayors and tell them ‘This is what we are going to do for a good purpose,’ “he added.
But the Philippine National Police previously said the cartels were an initiative of the NTF-ELCAC.
“I don’t know everything the NTF does,” Parlade said.
Parlade is currently in trouble for his message to actress Liza Soberano, who he warned not to get involved with the Gabriela Women’s Party list, which he claims is a terrorist front. But the military officer’s message was seen by many as a veiled threat.
He also accused another actress, Angel Locsin, of not being honest with the alleged membership of his sister, Ella Colmenares, to the NPA. Colmenares denied this in a separate statement.
