Metro Manila (CNN Philippines, October 25) – The Philippines’ coronavirus count topped 370,000 on Sunday with 2,223 new confirmed infections, while the death toll approached 7,000, the Health Department said.

DOH announced that the number of cases has reached 370,028, of which 35,015 or nine percent are active cases.

Of these currently ill patients, 82 percent experience mild symptoms, 11.3 percent do not have symptoms, 2.4 percent are severe cases, while 4.2 percent are in critical condition, detailed the latest report.

However, the department clarified that 16 laboratories were unable to submit their case reports on time and were not yet included in the last count.

It also announced an additional 14,944 recoveries, primarily from its Oplan Recovery program, which automatically labels a patient as recovered after being quarantined for a certain number of days and after symptoms disappeared upon evaluation by a physician.

With this, the survivors of COVID-19 in the country increased to 328,036, which represents about 88 percent of the case count.

Meanwhile, 43 more patients died from the disease, and the death toll rose to 6,977. Of the recently recorded deaths, 29 occurred in October and the other 14 occurred from May to September.

DOH said Quezon City included the most new infections nationwide at 112. Laguna was next with 111 most infected residents, followed by Rizal with 109, Cavite with 79 and Batangas with 74.

It also noted that it removed 14 duplicates from the overall case count as part of its data cleansing process, and that 11 cases previously reported as recoveries were reclassified as deaths after final validation.
