MANILA, Philippines – Fifth Tropical Depression is expected to drench parts of southern Luzon, Visayas and Mindanao on Saturday, the state meteorological office said.
In its live weather update at 5 am, the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (Pagasa) said “Quinta” was last sighted 750 kilometers east northeast of Guiuan, Eastern Samar or 855 kilometers east of Catarman, Samar.
“Quinta” also had maximum sustained winds of 55 kilometers per hour (kph) near the center and gusts of up to 70 kph.
The tropical depression was observed moving northwest at 15 kph.
Aside from “Quinta,” Pagasa said the trough from Typhoon Saudel, formerly known locally as Pepito, is currently affecting weather conditions in southern Luzon, Visayas and Mindanao.
Due to Quinta and the “Saudel” trough, cloudy skies with scattered rains and thunderstorms are expected over Mimaropa (Mindoro, Marinduque, Romblon, Palawan), Bicol region, Visayas and Mindanao.
Meanwhile, the frontal system is currently affecting northern Luzon and will bring cloudy skies with scattered rains and thunderstorms over Batanes, Cagayan, Apayao and Ilocos Norte.
The localized thunderstorms will bring partly cloudy to overcast skies with isolated showers over Metro Manila and the rest of the country, Pagasa said.
