ANGELES CITY-PBA Commissioner Willie Marcial said Wednesday night that the report of an alleged Covid-19 case within the bubble serves as a wake-up call for the entire delegation to adhere to strict protocols for Health.
“Wake up, give us a call so we don’t get too relaxed. It is true that we are in the bubble, but even so, we have to follow the protocols, “said Marcial after the doubleheader at the AUF Sports Arena with Smart 5G technology.
The PBA previously reported that a referee tested positive for Covid-19 following his reverse transcription polymerase chain reaction (RT-PCR) test on Monday, October 19.
The referee was rushed to the Athletes’ Village, the national quarantine facility, in New Clark City in Capas, Tarlac, on Wednesday to undergo a confirmatory RT-PCR test and a 14-day quarantine. The result will come out in three to five days, according to Marcial.
Later in the afternoon, the PBA, Clark Development Corporation (CDC) and the Bases Conversion and Development Authority (BCDA) said in a joint statement that the suspected case produced a negative antigen test result at the Athlete’s Village, resulting in which raises the possibility that he could be a false positive.
“Medical experts tell us that it looks like a false positive,” Marcial said.
“But we are still careful. As I said, we will wait for the result because it is probably a false positive, “he added.
NLEX coach Yeng Guiao, one of the main drivers of the PBA bubble in Pampanga, praised the immediate action by all three parties on the incident.
“We really don’t know how he got here, where he came from, but so far I have nothing but praise for how Clark, the BCDA and the PBA itself have been conducting this tournament,” Guiao said after leading the Road Warriors to their first win. on the bubble at NorthPort’s expense, 102-88.
The former deputy governor of Pampanga added that it is not yet necessary to press the panic button.
“The good thing about this is that when something goes wrong, they can still maintain control, they can still execute it professionally just like we are doing it,” he said.
“Sa akin that I’m not really worried or in a panic or whatever. These people know what they are doing. They can handle the situation. ”
Meanwhile, Marcial said the CDC and DOH granted Alaska and Blackwater’s requests for a new hyssop test. The two teams will be tested on Thursday starting at 9 am
