As demand for domestic broadband continues to increase, PLDT Inc. said Wednesday that it is rolling out “additional fiber lines” and adding 500,000 new ports across the country as it seeks to support the need for Internet connectivity during the pandemic.
Alfredo S. Panlilio, the company’s revenue director, said the initiative will last three to six months. This is part of the company’s P70 billion capital expenditures scheduled for 2020.
“PLDT is deploying more fiber, more ports in more parts of the Philippines than ever before because we want to connect as many Filipino families as possible to our fiber network. Now we have implemented more installation and repair equipment so that we can connect more Filipinos to the most extensive fiber infrastructure in the country, ”he said.
Menardo G. Jimenez Jr., the company’s senior vice president for the home broadband business, noted that his group has already adapted to the workflow during the pandemic and that the company is confident of completing the initiative despite the limitations.
“PLDT’s network service teams have figured out how to operate in pandemic conditions and have been able to steadily increase their installation capacity,” he said.
