A PBA referee inside the bubble at Clark, Pampanga is a suspected case of the coronavirus disease (COVID-19), PBA Commissioner Willie Marcial announced Wednesday in an exclusive interview on One News.
The referee, whose identity was not disclosed, was extracted from the Quest Hotel in Clark’s bubble, Pampanga this morning and taken to the quarantine area at the Athletes’ Village, where he will be examined again this afternoon and observed, according to Marcial.
Meanwhile, Clark Development Corporation (CDC) authorized the PBA to continue the games Wednesday night, Marcial said. Reportedly, stricter measures will be implemented at the site.
Meanwhile, all activities inside the hotel, including use of the pool and gym, will be suspended to make way for disinfection, Marcial added. “By tomorrow they (the players) can use the pool and gym again.”
“We have already done contact tracing and isolated all possible close contacts of the referee,” said PBA Deputy Commissioner Eric Castro.
Marcial sought to ensure that the league was doing everything possible to keep everyone safe. “We will do everything we can to make this bubble a success.”
The referee, who is reportedly asymptomatic, was examined on October 19 along with 27 others whose tests came back negative Tuesday night. It had previously tested negative three times, twice before entering the bubble and once after.
