MANILA, Philippines – Hotels in general community quarantine (GCQ) and modified GCQ areas can now operate at full capacity, the Department of Tourism (DOT) said Wednesday.

In a statement, the Secretary of Tourism, Bernadette Romulo-Puyat, said that “the decision to open to 100% of its operating capacity will be subject to the decision of the hotel management and compliance with security guidelines.”

Puyat said the DOT will soon issue the guidelines for the hotels’ expanded operating capacity.

The Interagency Task Force (IATF) for the Management of Emerging Infectious Diseases, in an earlier resolution, gave DOT the authority to calibrate the operations of lodging facilities.

Previously, hotels were only allowed to operate with a reduced workforce.

“In said resolution, the flexibility of the interzonal and intrazonal movement is also approved, which is the predicate to revive domestic tourism,” said Puyat.

“Along with this comes the need to prepare the entire tourism value chain, which includes the accommodation, transport and tourism operation sectors. Allowing the accommodation sector to function at full capacity will be very well received by the tourism workforce, which has been hit hard since the community closed, ”he added.
