SAN MIGUEL Beer star guard Terrence Romeo will be out for six to eight weeks after the guard dislocated his shoulder Friday night in a game against TNT Tropang Giga.
The incident was an unpleasant event for the defending champion Beermen, who already play without June Mar Fajardo. Fajardo, a six-time Most Valuable Player (MVP), is also recovering from injury.
Beermen head coach Leo Austria announced Romeo’s condition via smb.hoops.ph on Saturday morning.
“He’s out for six to eight weeks. I spoke with him last night and the doctor told him that he had a yung healing time of six to eight weeks (that the healing time is six to eight weeks), ”Austria said.
Romeo, 28, fell after colliding with veteran guard Ryan Reyes midway through the second quarter of his final game. He stayed on the sidelines, receiving treatment from SMB staff, and was later taken to the nearby medical town of Clark, which is part of the PBA bubble.
Team physical therapist Edward Bacason’s initial diagnosis is a dislocated shoulder. He is scheduled to meet with physician George Canlas to determine the official findings and the next course of action.
“I believe that he is not going to operate for the operation (he will not opt for an operation) because his purpose is to shorten [healing] process. But he opted for natural healing, ”Austria added.
The Beermen were defeated by TNT, 107-88, for their second consecutive loss (record of 1-2 wins and losses) inside the bubble, a bitter start as they sought a historic sixth consecutive Philippine Cup title.
The Brewers will attempt to end their losing streak when they face Terrafirma Dyip without a win on Monday.
