US-based Filipino fighter Mark Striegl is set for his UFC debut against Russia’s Said Nurmagomedov on Saturday (Sunday Manila time) on the UFC’s Fight Island undercard in Abu Dhabi.

It will be a 3-round bantamweight showdown that will serve as one of the preliminaries for UFC Fight Night: Ortega vs Korean Zombie.

“I think I fit in very well with him. Just wait for fireworks, man, “Striegl said in an interview on the T2 Fight Project podcast.

Striegl was supposed to face Russian Timur Valev on August 22, but was canceled after he tested positive for the new coronavirus.

This set him up for a “better” fight against Nurmagomedov.

“He is an explosive Russian fighter. I am exposed to Filipino fighters. He is from the mountains of Dagestan, I am from the mountains of Baguio, ”said Striegl, who has a professional record of 18-2.

Striegl has already undergone a 48-hour in-room quarantine and two COVID-19 tests as part of security measures before the fight.

“Everything is fine,” he said.

Striegl, a gold medalist in sambo from the 2019 Southeast Asian Games, hopes to extend a personal streak of 4 consecutive victories against Nurmagomedov, who has a 13-2 record.
