MANILA, Philippines – A low pressure area (LPA) was detected east of Mindanao and outside the Philippine Area of Responsibility (PAR), the state meteorological office said on Saturday.

In its live weather update at 5 am, the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (Pagasa) said the LPA was last monitored 1,660 kilometers east of Mindanao.

“It is possible that it will enter the PAR and bring rain (This can enter the PAR and it can bring rain),” said climate specialist Ezra Bulquerin.

Meanwhile, the southwest monsoon or “habagat” continues to affect the western section of southern Luzon.

Therefore, Mimaropa (Mindoro, Marinduque, Romblon, Palawan) as well as the Zamboanga peninsula in Mindanao will have cloudy skies with scattered rains and thunderstorms due to habagat.

Partly cloudy to cloudy skies with isolated rains are expected in Metro Manila and most of the country due to “habagat” and localized thunderstorms, Pagasa added.

The northeast surface wind flow will also bring cloudy skies with light rain to the Cagayan Valley, the Cordillera Administrative Region and the Aurora province.

Partly cloudy to cloudy skies with isolated light rains are expected in the Ilocos region and the rest of Central Luzon also due to surface wind flow from the northeast, Pagasa added.
