MANILA, Philippines – Spokesman Lord Allan Velasco said the offer he made to his predecessor, Taguig’s representative, Alan Peter Cayetano, to be vice president still stands.

Velasco, in an interview with journalists, added that Cayetano also has the option of becoming president of any committee of the Chamber.

“Yes, of course. He is the former speaker and I really believe that he deserves the position,” he said after presiding over the plenary session, where the members of the Chamber approved the third and final reading of the 2021 national budget project.

“You can choose the chairmanship of a committee or a vice president position,” Velasco added.

Velasco first discovered on Monday his plan to offer Cayetano a vice president position.

That day, 186 members of the House elected Velasco as the new Speaker of the House of Representatives in a session held at Celebrity Sports Plaza in Quezon City.

Velasco, for his part, reiterated that he is holding out his hand to Cayetano.

“Like what I said last time during one of my speeches, I said that I am extending my healing hand to former spokesperson Cayetano and I did,” he said.

Velasco added that there will be no reorganization between the vice presidents and committee chairs until the session resumes next month.

“From now on, wala muna tayong gagalawin (we will not change anything) because we want to have unity and harmony among the members,” he said.

“During the break, we will continue to review committee memberships because sometimes we see that there seems to be more positions available that are somewhat unfair to others (there are some who get more positions, which is unfair to others),” he added. .

However, during Velasco’s first week as a speaker, some of his allies have replaced Cayetano’s allies in key positions in the House.

One of them is Camarines Sur 2nd Dist. Representative Luis Raymund “LRay” Villafuerte Jr., a staunch ally of Cayetano, who was removed as vice president.

He was replaced by 1-PACMAN’s party list representative, Mikee Romero, a known Velasco ally.
