ANGELES CITY – Another key San Miguel player is out after guard Terrence Romeo was ruled out of the PBA Philippine Cup with a shoulder injury.

Coach Leo Austria confirmed the sad development the morning after Romeo injured his shoulder in a 107-88 loss to TnT Tropang Giga.

“He’s out for six to eight weeks,” Austria said. “I spoke to him last night and the doctor told him that he had six to eight weeks of healing time.”

Romeo was examined by renowned orthopedic surgeon Dr. George Canlas on Saturday, according to San Miguel physical therapist Edward Bacason.

The initial diagnosis of Romeo’s condition was a right shoulder dislocation following his collision with TnT Tropang guard Giga Ryan Reyes. Shortly after, he was rushed to the nearby Medical Center, but returned to the Quest Hotel early Saturday morning.

Romeo’s absence made him the second key San Miguel player to be out for the season after five-time MVP June Mar Fajardo suffered an offseason shin injury that required surgery.

Austria ruled out that Romeo should be operated on for his injured shoulder.

“I think that Hindi siya magpapa-opera dahil ang operation naman is to shorten the (healing) process. But he opted for natural healing,” he said of the guard from Saint Michael Beer, whose arm is currently in a sling.
