In a new book expected to be published Tuesday, former Trump Organization construction executive Barbara Res claims that Donald Trump was biased against blacks before he became president.
Since leaving Trump’s job, Res has criticized Trump. In 2016, Res said he supported the presidential campaign of Democrat Hillary Clinton. In the book Tower of Lies: What my 18 years of work with Donald Trump reveal about him, Res describes incidents in which Trump displayed racist behavior. An advance copy of the book was delivered to the Los Angeles Times for review.
In one case, Res alleges that Trump became upset after seeing a black person working at one of his construction sites. “Get him out of there right now,” Trump said, “and don’t let that ever happen again. I don’t want people to think that Trump Tower is being built by blacks.”
According to Res, “Bigotry and prejudice control Donald’s worldview, including so-called positive stereotypes, which are just as damaging, like saying that the Japanese (whom he seems to despise) are smarter than Americans.”
Trump also allegedly claimed that he did not want “black children sitting in the lobby where people arrive in million-dollar apartments” after seeing a black person applying for a job at a different property.
Newsweek reached out to Trump’s re-election campaign for comment.
Res hinted that Trump’s fame has only exacerbated some of his negative character traits. “It’s not difficult to look at the trajectory of his entire life and detect an unmistakable pattern,” wrote Res. “The bigger he got as a name, the smaller he got as a person.
Trump has taken a beating from authors pretending to be insiders who have published revealing books about his behavior both inside and outside the White House.
Trump’s niece Mary Trump published a book in July alleging that Donald Trump was enduring a dysfunctional relationship with his parents. In a July briefing, White House press secretary Kayleigh McEnany told reporters that the book consisted of “ridiculous and absurd allegations” that “have absolutely nothing to do with the truth.”
Former National Security Adviser John Bolton’s book published in June, The room where it happened, contained allegations that Donald Trump had asked Chinese President Xi Jinping to help him in his reelection campaign.
Donald Trump tweeted in June that Bolton was trying to get even for being fired from the administration.
“Bolton’s book, which is receiving terrible reviews, is a compilation of lies and fabricated stories, all intended to make me look bad,” Trump wrote. “Many of the ridiculous statements he attributes to me were never made, pure fiction. I’m just trying to get revenge for firing him like the sick puppy that he is!”
