Swedish startup Einride has unveiled an amazing new fully electric driverless delivery truck that can be controlled remotely and works on the same principle as a drone. The vehicle is ready to land in four different variations, now available for pre-order.
Since these autonomous trucks are driverless, there is no need for a cab. This contributes to the sleek and streamlined design of the company’s latest cable module.
It is a fully autonomous vehicle that can travel from A to B without assistance. However, an operator can remotely take control at any time for a particular maneuver or unexpected detour. The truck can be customized to suit the needs of individual companies, so while the platform remains the same, some technical specifications, such as top speed, may vary.
Currently, four different levels of autonomous electric transport (AET) can be requested. AET 1 is aimed at small, closed facilities with predefined routes suitable for fully autonomous operation. AET 2 is also aimed at closed facilities, but adds the ability to use nearby public roads for short distances.
AET 3 allows its use on secondary roads at a maximum speed of 45 kilometers per hour. Finally, the most advanced and ambitious version, AET 4, includes an autonomous driving mode on motorways at speeds of up to 85 kilometers per hour. The last two options are not expected to be delivered before the end of 2022 or early 2023.
Einride’s goal is to develop and generalize the use of autonomous electric transport throughout the world. / RGA
