PESO named official NSA for e-sports in the Philippines

The Philippine Olympic Committee (POC) has formalized the accreditation of the Philippines Electronic Sports Organization (PESO) as the official National Sports Association (NSA) for electronic sports in the Philippines.

An NSA is the officially designated regulatory body for a sport in the country. For a refresher on how NSAs work, read this:

In a certificate issued on October 9, 2020, the POC declared PESO as an associate member of the National Olympic Committee (CON) – Philippine Olympic Committee.

“As such, PESO is the only recognized National Sports Association and the governing body for ESPORTS sport in the Philippines,” the certificate says.

The certificate also bears the names of the PESO officials who will serve a two-year term from their election in February 2019: Brian Benjamin Lim, President; Eric Redulfin, vice president; Jess Tamboboy, Secretary General; and Michael Gatchalian, corporate secretary.

The news comes after reports surfaced this week that esports would be returning to next year’s SEA Games.

PESO member organizations include Bren Esports, Gariath Concepts, Mineski Philippines, The Nationals, PlayBook Esports, Tier One Entertainment, TV5, and TNC Holdings. These groups were instrumental in the debut of esports last year as a medal event at the 30th SEA Games.

They also worked, in various ways, as technical officers for the production and broadcast of the event, as well as coaches and managers for Sibol, the Philippine esports team.

“We also echo POC’s call for unity among esports groups and communities, as we all share the same goal of showcasing the skills and abilities of Filipino players in the world arena and ultimately bringing glory. to our country ”, he adds.

PESO went through a rigorous accreditation process by the POC, which took into account its years of experience organizing esports events and programs, as well as its links with renowned sports organizations.

Since 2012, PESO has been an accredited member of the International Esports Federation (IESF).

Last March, the IESF and the Asian Esports Federation (AESF) signed a landmark agreement to promote and advance esports globally and across the Asian continent.
