SAN FRANCISCO, United States – Twitter service appeared to re-establish Thursday night after a technical problem caused a nearly two-hour global outage on the social media platform used by hundreds of millions around the world.
The outage marked a further setback for the network, which is defending itself against accusations of bias over its decision to block a news report criticizing Democratic White House candidate Joe Biden.
“Twitter has been down for many of you and we are working to get it back to work for all of you,” the California-based company tweeted.
“We had some problems with our internal systems and we have no evidence of a security breach or hacking.”
At around 11:40 p.m. GMT, it was possible to perform certain functions, such as retweeting a post, but many users were still unable to send a new tweet.
“Something went wrong, but don’t worry, let’s give it another try,” read an error message.
According to downdetector.com, users on all continents had reported that they were unable to use the platform, but the outages were concentrated on the east and west coasts of the United States, as well as Japan.
The blackout appeared to have started around 2130 GMT.
“We continue to monitor while our teams investigate. More updates to come, ”said the application programming interface site Twitter.

Twitter this week has been defending itself against allegations of bias since it took the dramatic step of narrowing the scope of a New York Post article criticizing Biden and sparking a harsh rebuke from conservatives.
It was the latest glitch to take Twitter offline. The platform experienced a one-hour outage in July 2019, one that lasted several hours a year ago and another in February.
More concerning were hacking attacks on popular platforms like Twitter.
In July, he was the victim of a spectacular attack when prominent Americans, including former President Barack Obama, Amazon founder Jeff Bezos, Microsoft founder Bill Gates, and Tesla boss Elon Musk, saw his accounts hacked.
The hack affected at least 130 accounts, with tweets posted by the intruders tricking people into sending $ 100,000 worth of Bitcoin, allegedly in exchange for double the amount sent.
Since then, several people have been charged for the hack.
In September 2019, Twitter experienced a brief but embarrassing attack: founder Jack Dorsey’s account was hacked and his account posted erratic and offensive messages.
